John Lore

The Boss who cares more for quality than profit and for sustainability more than growth.

John Lore is the owner and founder of Live Edge Design, and someone who doesn’t take “no” for an answer. He is focused on delivering a message of real world authenticity and quality. He is inventive, Persistent, Nature-loving.


Mike describes himself as honest, friendly and hardworking. Some of his hobbies include floor hockey, which he has been playing for 25 years,” I LOVE hockey!”. He and his wife are also hobby farmers.


Sharlene is Assistant General Manager and keeps the financial side of the business running smoothly. Shar describes herself as organized, particular, and a bit of a purist. She was born and raised on Vancouver Island and can often be found pouring over figures at her desk or scowling at the expense receipts.


Courtenay our finishing assistant, coordinates and aids in the development of new finishes and recipes. Perhaps, because in her spare time she likes to bake. “I am quite often looking at new recipes or researching a different culture approach to cooking. My favorite thing to bake is Swedish visiting cake because besides being really tasty it’s really quick to throw together and doesn’t require icing! Right now i’m really into researching Danish food as a way to reconnect with my roots.”


 Alice joined the Live Edge Team as a woodworker and quickly fit right in. She sees Live Edge Design as a whole, and its parts are made up of all the people she spends her days with.  When she’s not busy creating beautiful pieces, Alice is assessing how to make working life better and safer along with the rest of the Safety Committee.


Katie has such a gift with design…taking a rough concept and creating a working drawing takes serious skills and lots of determination. This sounds like a fun, exciting job but it’s high pressure, every dimension and detail has to be triple checked for accuracy, strength and stability. With her foundation being in the wood shop, and periodic dabbling with woodworking since, she’s been with the Live Edge Design Team for 15 years, and running the drafting department for the last 13. Her favorite aspect of drafting is helping people see their rough ideas become a tangible buildable reality, through beautiful drawings and plans.


Christine has worked at Live Edge Design since 2012. and quickly became our Hospitality expert. She has a colourful background that involves working in the Naval Reserve, teaching English in the Central Pacific, and hanging out in Australia for a year. 

Christine is creative, energetic and optimistic. She can often be seen for hours at her desk without taking a break…working out the best solutions for her clients.


Karin is a key part of our Client Care Team, ensuring clients design dreams are realized through visioning and clear communication. When she’s not in the office you’ll find Karin on the fairway. 


Todd has never taken a coffee break. When the boss tells him he must stop working he simply starts to work on something different. Todd used to own a custom furniture shop and has a wealth of experience in building almost anything out of wood. Currently he makes wall art and mirrors when he runs out of Live Edge things to do.


Bit by the furniture bug at a very young age, Watching his Father and Uncles crafting heirloom pieces. Before and after graduating from SVI Trade School, Steve learned many different aspects of the woodworking trade.

From boat building to wood turning, and nearly everything in between. Finally settling into his true passion of furniture making.


Stefane is our assistant Shop Manager, with a background from Camosun College’s fine furniture program. He loves furniture design.

“Architecture and design are my passions; it was a natural fit to start working with Live Edge Design. I find it very humbling to work with salvaged trees; their size and their stories.”


Every part of our building and premises falls under Kurtis’ care and management. 

“I grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan and started woodworking at a course at Red River College in Winnipeg. A year later I got offered a job out West so packed up and It’s been my home ever since. I’ve been with Live Edge for over 10 years and can honestly say no 2 pieces are alike. I’m proud of our innovative techniques and unique sense of style.”


Peter joined our drafting team in March 2018 and has quickly found a home in drawing and designing furniture that translates clients needs and aspirations into plans. Peter has already become entrenched in the team by helping wherever he can and shining his positive beams all over the office! 


Hector is our shipping and assembly assistant with a head for marketing and the future. He describes himself as adaptable, pertinacious and positive. Hector has a degree in international trade and has lived in many different countries around the globe. He has quickly found a home at Live Edge Design, pre-assembling pieces before they ship out to ensure the highest quality standards. 


Stephanie is our Client Care Team Manager who enjoys offering clients design support through the creation of their custom furniture. Her interior design background and ability to communicate a vision has proven invaluable to the clients she works with.


Rob has the best job. As the miller, it is his job to cut open the trees and see what lives beneath the surface. Wielding his seven foot chainsaw Rob once spent two and a half days cutting out Live Edge’s largest table ever: a nine foot diameter round burl. 


Donna is the Marketing Director at Live Edge Design and the creative genius behind our website and some of our product designs. When she is not chasing her two small children around her hobby farm she can be found in the studio exercising her multidisciplinary marketing mind.


Amber started out at Live Edge in 2013 as a Sales Associate and has moved through the ranks, settling in as Live Edge Design’s Director of Operation and Wood Supply. She also holds a chemical engineering degree, a wall full of badminton trophies, reads an average of 52 books a year and currently holds the title of Geek Supreme in the office. 


Neil is our head of finishing and brings a eye for quality and details to the position, ensuring each coat of finish is applied to his exacting standards. When Neil is not in the booth he can be found serving up some tunes behind a sound board. 


Colton is our shipping and assembly assistant. He describes himself as friendly, passionate and fiercely ambitious. Colton can be seen cruising in the Live Edge delivery van or wielding a screwdriver and level in the shipping department, pre-assembling pieces to make sure everything ships in tip top shape. Quality first. 


Jan is one of the longest serving employees. He has seen everything. The cool thing about Jan is that he’s a professional skeptic and a mathematical genius. If you’re going to tell Jan something you had best have some proof. His forte is that he can do anything – he could build you an entire house!


Rodrigo joins our talented crew of craftsman from the Camosun Fine Furniture program. He is also an avid and astounding parkour practitioner and can often be seen leaping between tall buildings. His attention to detail is great in the workshop and his unique ability to assess and calculate how to get a 17ft table up a stairwell comes in handy on delivery day.


Ari is one of the most senior woodworkers at Live Edge Design and manages the woodworking shop and can always be counted on for a smile and a laugh.

“I have spent 20+ years working as a cabinet maker on commercial projects throughout Western Canada. I enjoy working on old, rusty vehicles in my spare time. I have lived on the island for the last 10 years and enjoy its natural beauty and sense of community.”


Jake is our head shipper and resident comedian. If anyone can get a giant, heavy table across the continent in one piece and on time then Jake is your man.  

When asked for three words that describe himself Jake offered up “Totally F#@king Awesome” or “Ultimate Supreme Being”.
